President Kagame today received visiting Somali President, Sheikh Shariff Sheikh Ahmed with whom they held discussions on a range of issues related to cooperation between the two countries. The Somali President arrived in Kigali today for a two day visit, and is leading a delegation of Somali Government officials that includes Hussein Sheikh Mohamed Hussein, the Somali Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Maj. Gen. Abdullahi Sheikh Ali Dini, Chief of Staff of Somali Army.
Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, the Rwanda Minister of Foreign Affairs, Louise Mushikiwabo said that discussions between the two Heads of State dwelt on the situation in Somalia in general and the upcoming elections and constitution making:
“The President of Somalia informed his counterpart about the prevailing peace in Mogadishu and many parts of Somalia and his Government’s preparations to move from a transitional Government. The President also requested for Rwanda’s continued support and advocacy as Somalia continues to build and consolidate peace around the country. Rwanda is already training Somali police and Revenue officials in the spirit of African solidarity.”
