Kigali, 22 August 2012

President Kagame today received in his office heads of regional police forces who are in the country to witness the official launch of the police command post exercise involving 60 police officers from 12 regional countries, all members of EAPCCO.

Speaking to press after the meeting, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Sheikh Musa Fazil Harelimana said President Kagame told the police chiefs that cooperation between security forces should be strengthened further and even include other police forces beyond the scope of the region.

“The President said cooperation between security organs is a good thing because this will help to efficiently combat trans-national crimes like human trafficking, drug trafficking and other crimes.”

Elisabeth Kuteesa, the Director of the regional police services directorate, said:

“It is encouraging to see a head of state accepting to meet police heads. This shows that there is political will which we need to carry out our work effectively.”
