President Kagame today received the former President of Germany Dr Horst Köhler at Urugwiro Village. Köhler served as Head of State from 2004 to 2010. Following the meeting, in her address to members of the press, Minister Louise Mushikiwabo said: “As the former President of Germany and UN special envoy for Western Sahara, President Kohler met with President Kagame to discuss different points in line with President Kagame’s imminent position as African Union Chair which will commence end of January. The United Nation has been dealing with the Western Sahara issue for the last forty years, during the meeting, different ways in which African leaders can contribute to creating a sustainable solution were discussed.”

Rwanda and Germany have enjoyed excellent bilateral relations since 2000. Development partnerships between the two countries focuses on various sectors including; education, decentralisation and good governance, private sector development and youth, public financial management, financial development and technical cooperation.
