Kigali, 6 August 2018
President Kagame today joined Rwandan young basketball players for the opening ceremony of the 2018 Giants of Africa Camp which runs from 6-8 August in Kigali.
Held at Petit Stade Amahoro, the Camp is organized by Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri and aims to leverage basketball as a tool for youth to dream big towards maximizing the opportunities available to build a sustainable future.
Speaking at the event, President Kagame encouraged young people in different places across the country to strive to become their best selves.
“To all young people, we look up to you for what is coming in the future for you to be what you want to be among other things as developed talents in basketball or other sports. Are you ready to become Giants? You just don’t become Giants anyhow, you have got to invest a lot of your time and energy and everything else,” President Kagame said.
This year’s Giants of Africa Camp is also attended by Adam Silver, the Commissioner of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Amadou Gallo Fall, Managing Director of NBA – Africa. The camp targets 50 players and five local coaches who will be trained by NBA coaches.
In its 15th year, Giants of Africa has expanded its footprint and programming across the continent prioritizing skills training and personal development.
