Rweru, 4 July 2016
President Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame today led Rwandans in commemorating 22 years of liberation celebrations in Bugesera District where they toured and launched the Rweru Integrated Development Model Village which includes a school with 17 classrooms, a health post and a modern market. The model village also home to 104 families newly relocated from high risk zones of Mazane and Sharita islands.
In his address, President Kagame reminded Rwandans to continue fighting and working hard in order to build a nation where access to basic needs would be the norm for all Rwandans and Africans;
“Having access to drinkable water, electricity and a roof over our head should not feel like a miracle – it is your basic right. The next stage of our liberation is to liberate ourselves from any obstacles that stand in the way of our development. True liberation means dignity, it means no one should ever decide for us who we should be. As Rwandans and as Africans, we must be the ones to own and shape our future. Dignity is not cheap. You have to earn it, stand up and fight for it,
