Kigali, 30 March 2019

President Kagame today joined residents of Kicukiro District to undertake this month’s Umuganda, which involved cleaning up the Nyanza genocide memorial situated in the district. Participating in the Umuganda also were members of the Council of Ministers and Heads of Organs and Institutions of the East African Community, EAC, who concluded a strategic retreat yesterday.

In his address, President Kagame called on cooperation between people of the region:

“When we work together, we achieve more and go even further. Whenever you travel in the East African community, whether Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Tanzania, South Sudan, when you find them doing work to transform their country, join them. We want to join hands and work together in Rwanda, in East Africa and across the whole continent. We believe in cooperation and working together. Those are the values we stand for.”

This month’s Umuganda comes at a time when Rwandans are gearing up for the 25th commemoration of the genocide against the Tutsi.
