Algiers, 19 April 2015

President Kagame arrived today in Algiers where he was received by the speaker of the Council of the Nation, Abdelkader Bensalah and members of the government. President Kagame began with a visit to the National Liberation Museum where he laid a wreath at the Maqam Ehachid monument (Martyr’s Memorial) in honor of the martyrs of Algeria’s War of Independence.

President Kagame toured the Mujahid or Liberation Museum detailing Algeria’s history and its liberation struggle.

The state visit will serve as an opportunity to build on Rwanda and Algeria’s long standing relationship and strengthen cooperation in both the public and private sectors. In December of last year, Algeria opened its embassy in Rwanda with Mr. Djafri Abdelaziz, Minister Counselor in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as its head.

President Kagame will meet with President Abdelaziz Bouteflika for bilateral talks on the second day of the visit as well as Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal and will end the visit with a tour of the Tipaza Museum and archaeological Park.
