Nouakchott, 30 June 2018 

President Kagame today co-hosted a high-level meeting on “Women in Power” on behalf of the African Union alongside Neven Mimica, European Union Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development.

The meeting, a joint initiative by the African Union and the European Union, convened on the sidelines of the 31st Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union. This gathering discussed issues pertaining to gender equality and women empowerment.

Delivering opening remarks, President Kagame highlighted that gender equality is always on the agenda of both the African Union and the European Union.

“Women can deliver more when they are enjoying their full rights. But men and women working together using their talents to the maximum the effect is not just additive, it multiplies. All of society benefits. The sum is indeed much greater than the parts,” President Kagame said.

President Kagame also attended the Ad hoc Committee meeting at the Heads of State level on South Sudan, chaired by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, and a State Dinner in honour of visiting Heads of State hosted by Mauritanian President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz.
