Kigali, 13 January 2019

President Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame today attended the annual National Prayer Breakfast.

Organized by the Rwanda Leaders Fellowship (RLF), the prayer gathering brings together leaders in top positions across the public and private sectors as well as faith-based organizations to reflect on the milestones that the nation has achieved, offer a thanksgiving prayer for all the achievements registered, and pray for the nation and its leaders for the year ahead.

Speaking at the prayer meeting, President Kagame highlighted that prayer should be about gaining the strength necessary for leaders to fulfill their responsibilities and deliver on citizens’ expectations.

“Prayer cannot be a way of running away from your responsibility. There has to be a balance. We cannot allow religion to be used as an anesthetic that allows you to be numb to the hard challenges we must face. You cannot allow religion to be an escape that gives the illusion that we are fine when we are not. We have to face these challenges. Religion has to be about upholding our values, giving us the courage to solve our challenges and do all that we can to play our part. We cannot perform miracles but we have to fulfill our responsibilities,” President Kagame said.

Themed “Instilling Godly Values in Leadership,” the forum is derived from the belief and conviction that leadership and specifically good leadership comes from God.

This year’s Prayer Breakfast was attended by over 700 guests including leaders from different government institutions, members of Rwanda Leaders Fellowship, representatives of faith-based organizations operating in Rwanda, among others. The prayer event is also an opportunity to give thanks to God for the immeasurable blessings he has bestowed upon Rwanda as a nation.
