Today, President Kagame took part of the baby gorilla naming ceremony commonly known as Kwita Izina which was celebrated for the 13th time this year in Kinigi, Northern province.

Addressing the guests gathered at the site, President Kagame stressed the importance of protecting the environment : ” We have to do our best to protect our gorillas’ habitat, like all other animals in the wildlife across the country. We all know the revenues we get from enhancing our conservation efforts. ”

He concluded with a special message for Musanze residents, thanking them for being the guardians of the park and the gorillas: ” I thank you for your continued support to me and the country’s leadership. We’ll keep investing even more efforts in protecting  and preserving the rich biodiversity of our country.”

This year’s Kwita Izina ceremony was held under the theme:” Conservation and sustainable tourism, a foundation for future generations”. Personalities from diver background were chosen to name the 19 baby gorillas that were born this year.

Following the celebrations in Musanze, President Kagame proceeded to Rubavu District where together with Mr. Howard Buffett, he inaugurate La Corniche One Stop Border Post on the border of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
