Kigali, 24 August 2015
Former President of Mali and African Union High Representative to South Sudan, Alpha Oumar Konare today called on President Kagame in Kigali with whom they held discussions on the ongoing crisis in South Sudan and other issues affecting the continent.
Speaking to the press after meeting President Kagame, the AU High Representative said his visit is in tandem with his role in trying to find a lasting solution for the crisis in South Sudan.
“I came to meet with President Kagame to consult him so he can share his leadership and support on the issue of South Sudan, because he is among the five African Presidents endorsed by the African Union Peace and Security Council to support the East African IGAD mediation team, in order to help broker a peace agreement in South Sudan.”
President Konaré was appointed by the Commission of the African Union (AU), Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma in June this year as the AU High Representative to South Sudan.
