President Kagame today officiated at the pass out ceremony of 478 officer cadets at Rwanda Military Academy in Gako, who have been undergoing basic officer training that lasted one year. In addition to military training, the new officers have various professional backgrounds in different fields.
After congratulating them upon completing the training, President Kagame asked the cadet officers to reflect on the history of the Rwanda Defense Force and endeavour to uphold the values of the institution.
βRDF is not just about military protection. We have a role in transforming this nation, working with and for the people. The Rwanda Defence Force has a history in which we find the values that guide us in building our country. The profession you have chosen is an important responsibility we expect you to fulfill. The training you have received is about building this country and preserving what is built.β
President Kagame emphasised the contribution of the military in finding solutions to problems facing the people by working closely with them.
βIt is your responsibility to protect the sovereignty of our country but most importantly, the people. RDF originates from the citizens of this country. We must take part in finding solutions to the challenges citizens face citizen. RDF is not just about military protection. We have a role in transforming this nation, working with and for the people. Protecting our sovereignty means working for the development of every Rwandan and ensuring that no one is left behind. True sovereignty means the well being and dignity of our citizens.β
Among the officers commissioned today were several who received their training from foreign military academies in Kenya, Tanzania, Belgium, and the United States.
