President Kagame met with His Excellency Shri Hamid Ansari, Vice President of the Republic of India as part of his 3 day visit to Rwanda. The Vice President was accompanied by a delegation of public officials as well as a business delegation. Following his visit to Rwanda, Vice President Ansari travelled to Uganda on 21st February.

Welcoming the Vice President to Rwanda, President Kagame referred to his recent visit to India for the Vibrant Gujarat summit and described the Vice President visit as an additional sept towards strengthening bilateral relations:”Your presence here strengthens our relationship. I look forward to what we will do together,” President Kagame said.

Commenting on his first visit to Rwanda, Vice President Ansari said: “Nothing matches the beautiful crafting of this country. It is tribute to you and your people who have done it.”

The Vice President’s visit to Rwanda included a meeting with the Indian community, a business forum and ended with signature of three agreements including a bilateral air service agreement between Rwanda and India (BASA), an MoU on the establishment of an Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) as well as an agreement for the exemption of visa requirements for diplomatic and service passport holders.
