Kigali, 25 December 2014

This evening at Urugwiro Village, President Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame held a Christmas cocktail that brought together Rwandans from across the private and public sector

Addressing the guests during the evening, President Kagame defined the year 2014 as the year Rwanda proved many wrong:

“This year 2014 brought many blessings to the people of #Rwanda. We surmounted the difficulties of the past two years and came out stronger than we were. The lies that were told about Rwanda came to light.

“Those who believe never lose faith. Let us continue to believe in the truth and in our dignity. Rwandans can build their own nation. Working together as Rwandans and with friends, we can reach the goals we have set for ourselves,” President Kagame added.

Addressing the young generation, President Kagame pointed to lessons that should not be wasted from Rwanda’s journey:

“Rwanda is not just a name. Today, we have a nation that stands for something. This was not given to us; it is something we worked for. It is the responsibility of the younger generation to seek to understand our history so that what we fought for and what we stand for is never lost.”

President Kagame added that the next generation should build on today’s accomplishments but strive to achieve more:

“Those who will come after us cannot go backwards nor be satisfied where we are today. They must do even more. You do not have to live through our hardships. We lived through them so that you would not have to. If you make the right choices, you will reap the benefits of our sacrifices. It is in your hands.”
