Investors from the Middle East are planning to start an aviation services project in the country and will make an announcement in this respect in May in Geneva. Speaking to the press after leading a delegation of investors to a meeting with President Paul Kagame today, the Rwanda Honorary Middle East envoy, Tarek Ragheb, said that discussions are underway. They are looking at financial and infrastructure aspects to pave the way for ultimate take-off.
“We are also looking into big projects like the Kigali Convention Center and the new airport. After Geneva in May, we may be able to make some specific announcement on the way forward,” Tarek Ragheb said.
The CEO of the Rwanda Development Board, John Gara added: “These investors have been with us for the last two days and together we have looked at the different investment opportunities available in the country. They have taken specific interest in starting an aviation services center which, if started, would be the first of its kind in Africa. This would be a good thing for Rwanda. We will be signing an MoU in the coming few weeks.”
Mr. Gara said that during the discussions, President Kagame encouraged the investors to continue discussions with the concerned authorities to ensure that the projects are successfully implemented.
