Davos, 25 January 2013

President Kagame began the last day of the World Economic Forum with the book launch of “Intelligent Governance for the 21st Century.” Written by Nathan Gardels and Nicolas Berggruen, one of the investors in the East African Commodities Exchange, the book advocates for the need to look beyond democracy as the best system of governance. The authors argue that “for decades, liberal democracy has been extolled as the best system of governance to have emerged out of the long experience of history. Today, such a confident assertion is far from self evident. Democracy is in crisis and the West must prove itself.”

Following the book launch, President Kagame met with Sweden Finance Minister Anders Borg and Sweden Foreign Minister Gunilla Carlsoon. The meeting was followed by a conversation with World Bank President Jim Yong Kim.

President Kagame ended the day with an informal gather of world economic leaders entitled “The Future We Want from 2015.”

During the three day conference, President Kagame was able to share his vision for an economic prosperous Africa with its rightful place in the world. As Minister Rwagombwa explained, Rwanda’s presence at the forum showed those present that Rwanda is a player on the global stage and is open for business.
