President Kagame today in Arusha, Tanzania participated in the 10th Summit of the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State. Also in attendance was the President of Kenya and Chairperson of the EAC Summit, Mwai Kibaki, President of Tanzania, Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and <![endif]–>First Vice President of Burundi, Therence Sinunguruza.
The heads of state appointed Jesca Eriyo from Uganda as the new EAC Deputy Secretary General and renewed the contract of Jean Claude Nsengiyumva (Deputy Secretary General – Productive and Social Sectors) contract. The Summit also considered a report of the Council of Ministers on the proposed attainment of a Single Customs Territory, signing the protocol on Co-operation in Defence and a reporton the application by the Republic of South Sudan to join the East African Community.
